HPD Services

An HPD (Health Product Declaration) is a comprehensive disclosure of the potential health hazards and chemicals of concern in products.  It does so by comparing product ingredients to a set of priority “hazard” lists based on the GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals and additional lists from other government agencies.

The HPD is governed by the HPD Collaborative. It is considered a complement to an LCA and an EPD.

Types of HPD

An HPD is for disclosure-purposes only, who prepares it carries a weight in obtaining sustainability credibility by providing validated supporting documentation towards credits with systems like LEEDv4, WELL and other sustainability-driven certifications. An HPD can be self-declared, prepared by a manufacturer or their designated consultant; or be 3rd party verified, done by an independent 3rd party agency.

HPD Self-Declared

  • Self-declared by manufacturer
  • Nested materials inventory with product-level thresholds
  • Substance levels
  • VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) levels

HPD 3rd Party Verified

  • 3rd party-verified
  • Nested materials inventory with material-level thresholds
  • Substance levels
  • VOC levels

An HPD does not guarantee that your product will pass sustainable standard requirements. It is just a declaration. It is also important to note that no interior finishes or furnishings, individually or collectively, can guarantee a specific number of points for LEED certification.  Only analysis of the data will give a chance to improve the ingredients towards a better sustainable product.

Assist manufacturers understand the HPD preparation process and provide them with credible resources.  Good for Self-Declared HPD for manufacturers who want to prepare HPD in house and/or with a consultant.

HPD Standard

Prepare industry-standard, 3rd-party certified HPD.  Complete with ingredient research, document formatting, ready to be filed.

HPD Plus

Prepare industry-standard, 3rd-party independent HPD, and counsel the manufacturer about offensive ingredients that need to be modified in order to pass certification.  Once the ingredients are replaced, update the HPD.
